Now that Super Bowl is getting close I thought it was time to share one of my favorite football recipes, my 7 layer dip! This is great for a crowd because everyone loves it and it will serve a good amount of people. Plus you can make it earlier in the day and just put it out come game time!
The Details
I’ve made a few swaps with this one from a standard recipe to make it slightly healthier without losing any flavor. First I use vegetarian refried beans or even refried black beans. This cuts down on any extra unnecessary fat and you don’t even know. I also use non fat greek yogurt instead of sour cream which is another swap you won’t even notice. Also we always use tostitos scoops because they can hold the weight of the dip without breaking! They even come in baked as well.
When making this I usually use a pie pan because its the perfect depth and you can see all the layers. But get creative and use anything fun you have around the house. Another great help is to use a silicone spatula for doing the layering. It makes it really easy to spread out the ingredients and get them even. Make sure to follow the order of the layers because the beans on the bottom are the sturdiest for scooping and having the guacamole under the yogurt helps keep it from getting brown.
7 Layer Dip – Lightened Up
- 1/2 can vegetarian refried beans or black beans
- 2 cups guacamole – homemade or store bough
- 2 cups Greek yogurt
- 2 tsp taco seasoning
- 2 cups Shredded cheese
- 1 cup Shredded lettuce
- Chopped tomatoes and onions for garnish
Mix taco seasoning into the greek yogurt until well combined. Using a pie pan or 8” square pan layer all ingredients in order listed starting with refried beans, making sure each layer looks equal. The layers should go beans, guacamole, yogurt, cheese, lettuce and top with tomatoes and onions for garnish. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Need a cocktail to add to the party? Check out my Fresh Lime Margarita! Its always a crowd favorite.
Enjoy!
