Budget friendly powder room makeover

It has been many years since we first renovated this little powder room on our main floor. I loved how we added the shiplap to give it a little character and dimension. But this year I just felt like it was time for a little budget friendly powder room makeover. I didn’t want it to turn into a total project but I wanted a big impact. And make sure to check out the before picture at the end!

The powder room details

There were only 3 things I needed to do for this budget friendly powder room makeover! I’m sure you can guess what the main one being since I talk about it a lot – paint! I definitely wanted a paint color that would make a statement. I ended up choosing Debonair by Sherwin Williams. At the end of the post you will find some other colors I sampled. And dont forget you can grab all my best painting tips here! While I was planning it out I had some people ask why I wasn’t just removing the shiplap. And that was for a couple reasons; one being that removing it would turn it into a larger project than I intended. Plus I liked how it gave some character to the space and it divided the wall space so I could do wallpaper on top!

It took me awhile to narrow down the wallpaper because there were so many that I liked. I collected samples of many different ones. However once I saw this hydrangea wallpaper I knew it was the one. One thing I had forgotten is the task of putting up wallpaper. It has been awhile since we have done it and I was reminded that you really need to slow down and be patient when applying it. Once you are in the groove it gets to be easier. Just keep in mind that you need to be lining up the pattern so it matches up properly.

The 3rd thing that was changed in this space was the window shade. The other one was pretty old and was due to be swapped out. So we added this pretty cordless roman shade that would give privacy but still lets some light in. All the other accessories stayed the same and they matches the new color scheme perfectly.

The total cost of this budget friendly powder room makeover was just around $300. That was for the paint, supplies, wallpaper and shade. It probably could have been closer to $200 if I was more careful with the wallpaper alignment and cuts because I had to get a second roll. However its still a great price for such an impactful transformation!
