As you can imagine there is no magic trick or big secret on how to get glowing skin. Just like everything in life if you take good care of it your skin will reflect that. I definitely don’t have perfect skin but I have learned over the years that knowing and following a few guidelines makes my skin look dramatically better and brighter.
How to get glowing skin
To start here are a few things to know and start doing regularly to get your skin glowing and looking its best.
Know the difference between dry and dehydrated
Ok I know it drives me crazy when people constantly tell me this too but – drink enough water. There’s this longstanding joke with my husband and I that whenever anything is bothering me; I have a headache, I’m tired, sore, not feeling well.. whatever it is his first response is always , have you drank enough water?? While it drives me CRAZY haha….. it is so true! So not only is it important for our overall health but it also makes a big difference in the appearance and texture of our skin too. Sometimes if your skin in dehydrated you may be confusing it for being dry and in turn not addressing it properly.
EXFOLIATE
Did putting in all caps help? I cannot stress this enough. The majority of people I have met and talked skincare with over the years are not exfoliating often enough. Even if you are dry you still need to be exfoliating. It’s important to clean off the dead skin so your products can soak in and work. At a minimum you should be exfoliating 1-2 times a week. And there are many different products out there for exfoliating. You can use a manual scrub but also try mixing in serums that help to naturally exfoliate your skin. I will link some of my favorite products at the end.
Wash yo face!
So I would love to just say please please always remove your makeup at night. But you really need to be washing, using a serum and moisturizing. It makes a difference. This is the most critical time when our skin is repairing itself and you need to set it up for success.
Now how to KEEP your skin glowing
Just as important is how to maintain and keep your skin glowing are the following steps.
SPF SPF SPF
Everyday. It’s very important during the summer but don’t forget to use it daily in the winter. Even when its cold or cloudy out you are still being exposed to the sun and harmful rays. Protecting your skin is so important.
Keep your hands off your face
I may also be a terrible offender of this. But I really try to stay cognizant about the fact that touching your face, resting it on your hands and of course picking at it is so bad for your skin. You are just putting more dirt and oil onto your skin plus creating opportunities for bacteria to grow. Not to mention if you tug at your skin too hard you are just creating more wrinkles.
Constantly reevaluate your skin and skincare needs.
Over time our skin type and needs can change. It is best to stay on top of it and know and address when there is a change in how your skin is feeling or reacting to things.
