Well we are going on several days now of the polar vortex leaving us with school canceled and being stuck indoors. Trying to get creative with activities to keep the kids busy and happy. We’ve done all the games and crafts so today we are moving into the kitchen to make a valentines treat. The kids and I love to cook and bake together, you can see more about it in my cooking with kids post.
A Valentines Treat
Valentines day is such a fun holiday for kids and adults. The kids and I love to make chocolate covered treats for pretty much any occasion. Its no shock that our pick for Valentines Day is to make chocolate covered strawberries! My kids love strawberries and they are such a classic treat for Valentines Day.
They are super easy to make! Pick out your favorite type of chocolate; whether it be semi sweet, dark or white chocolate. Any of them will work. Morsels will melt the faster but rough chopped will work too. Add a small amount (about 1 tsp) of vegetable oil to the chocolate before melting if preferred; it gives the chocolate a prettier finish when it dries.
Either melt the chocolate in a double boiler (saucepan with small about of water with another heat safe bowl above) or microwave in a microwave safe bowl for 15-20 second intervals until melted and smooth. Dip clean and dry strawberries into the chocolate and lay on parchment paper to dry. Top with sprinkles if desired!
Such a quick and easy treat that looks so pretty and fun! It took a lot of control for the kiddos to wait until the chocolate dried and even a minute for me to snap a quick picture before digging in!
We hope you all are staying warm and having fun getting creative inside!
